This time only with different kind of method of applying changes, from now on the version stays same but selected patches from newer versions are included in the older version, this can include new features aswell unless the change breaks everything.

The way new versions will be named in the xservers debian repository will become similar to how debian packages are named with the update number appended (e.g. deb12u1, deb12u2, deb12u3, and so on).

There will be no longer new builds made available of PCSX2 in the Xservers debian repository because the useful cmake presets have been removed from it which really made big difference in how much less complex it was to compile.

The current build in the Xservers debian repository works as long as it does and when it doesn't anymore then it won't and i'm not making new build.

EDIT: the presets seem to still exists but undocumented (no mention in docs) so not sure if they work or not but in any case the build is broken because finding one of the dependencies fail no matter what.

Announcements / Xservers git to be shut down
Last post by stderr64 - Apr 05, 2024, 09:51 PM
It's in the plans to shut down git.xservers.dy.fi in the future so it's probably not going to exist for much longer.

The reason for this is after having taken better look at the build requirements to compile forgejo from source it turns out there is huge list of dependencies (a.k.a third party libraries) forgejo depends on which can be seen as big security threat since all it would take is one of those big amounts of dependencies to be taken over and malicious update pushed for wide spread of malware. Forgejo simply cannot be trusted for that reason, even if forgejo is fully secure the dependencies pose huge risks.

New version 1.7.5661 of PCSX2 is now available in the xservers debian repository.

This build also includes the removal of liblzma which was part of XZ that was found to be backdoored on 29th of march.
Note: Since the version of xz-utils in debian is 5.4.1 which doesn't contain the backdoor the earlier builds with liblzma also were safe since they were built with liblzma 5.4.1 (liblzma 5.6.0 and liblzma 5.6.1 would been unsafe)

List of custom changes:
  • Fixed unable to build because of error in Log Window code (this fixes writing to log window on debian)

There isn't much to how it's decided when packages such as PCSX2 are updated to newest version.

For example for PCSX2 that decision is based on how many changes have happened since current version in repository and if there have been important fixes or nice to have features added. If there are new important fixes or nice to have features added then the package could get updated even just days since last update.

For all packages in the Xservers debian repository when to update them is done same way as for PCSX2 in example above.
